Ashdod's sights are mostly by the sea. The Ashdod-Yam citadel, an early-Islamic coastal fortress later used by the Crusaders, has been conserved with an overlook deck and is free to enter. The upgraded marina has an artificial lake and a wide promenade that is busiest at sunset. From City Hall, the free 800-metre Lights of Ashdod sound-and-light trail runs to Ashdod Yam Park; the tourism site asks visitors to check with the 106 hotline that it is running. The municipal tourism company's visitor site has Hebrew, English, French, Russian and Arabic versions.
