Getting around Ashdod

Ashdod's single train station, bus terminals and BRT lines, Rav-Kav, parking rules and what runs on Shabbat.

Ashdod is a spread-out planned city: quarters are separated by wide boulevards, so most residents combine buses with walking or cycling. Stop-by-stop details and intercity lines are on the transit section of this site; this guide covers the basics.

Train

Ashdod has one railway station, Ashdod Ad Halom (Metropol), near the south-eastern entrance to the city (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Trains on the coastal suburban lines reach Tel Aviv in about 35 minutes. The station is far from most homes, so plan a bus to it: the BIG bus terminal next to it has frequent buses to the central bus station (Hebrew Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). The city's 2026 'Aliyah to Ashdod' flyer mentions two stations; we found only one in operation. Timetables: Israel Railways (opens in a new tab).

Buses

  • The central bus station is in City Mall in the City quarter. Secondary terminals are BIG (by the train station), North (Bnei Brit Blvd) and Riviera (Rova Tet-Vav).
  • City lines and most intercity lines are run by Electra Afikim; Dan BaDarom runs the Jerusalem lines (448, 450, 451) and Metropoline the Be'er Sheva lines (348, 368) (Open Bus GTFS query (opens in a new tab)).
  • Key city lines (Electra Afikim, Ministry of Transport GTFS for Wednesday 7 October 2026 via Open Bus (opens in a new tab)): line 10 runs along Herzl Blvd between the Riviera terminal and HaBosem/HaUman (193 trips that day); line 1 links the Ad Halom train station with the central bus station via Moshe Sne, HaMishna, Altalena, HaPrachim, Bnei Brit and HaAtzmaut/HaTziyonut, returning to the train station/BIG terminal (57 trips that day).

Paying and planning

Shabbat and holidays

There is officially no public transport on Shabbat in Ashdod; private initiatives have operated at times (Hebrew Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Intercity buses and trains also stop from Friday afternoon to Saturday night.

Driving and parking

Highway 4 links Ashdod with Gush Dan and Ashkelon. Paid parking in zone 1 (centre and industrial zones) runs Sun-Thu 08:00-20:00 and Fri 08:00-16:00; zone 2 (beaches) every day 08:00-22:00, with free beach parking for registered Ashdod residents (parking department (opens in a new tab)).

Cycling

The Reway plan included a network of bike lanes along the main boulevards, but the planned bike-rental stations were not built, and we found no bike- or scooter-share scheme operating in the city.
